Private Conversations with the Lady
Jan. 5th, 2020 10:12 pm[Welcome to the Lady's...not home far from home, but it's a place she tolerates. The moment you enter it's clear she did her best to make this office in the bookstore a place she approves.
Outfitted with an overly plush chair on a rather elaborate rug, the desk is overflowing with countless books stacked everywhere, with everything serving as a makeshift bookshelf including an errant fax machine. The Lady seems to have tried her best to make the amenities up to her standards: there’s a tray with a teapot, notes everywhere written with confusing ciphers, and what seems to be an attempt to make a generator, but wasn’t completed.
Where the Lady sits it’s far more orderly, facing the door and giving her the high ground against anyone who enters. On the far wall hangs a large portrait of the Lady, adding character and additional charm. Truly, this is the office of someone who wants you to feel small before her presence.
And, there on her chair, there she is. When the door opened she turned her head towards you, seeing who it was. Invariably of who it is, she sighs like this is a big interruption of her work, and keeps writing and drawing]
Don't touch anything and make sure you don't track mud in. If you have any complaints go see Rembrandt.
[She didn't even look up while saying that. So, what brings you to her office today?]

Do you think it could be a side effect of their powers?
no subject
Date: 2020-01-22 06:54 pm (UTC)...that's unlikely. Why now? And why two places at once? I could see that being possibility of it had been only the museum since they're so fond of that place, but it doesn't make sense another place too would have the same side effect.
[But it's a theory she can't toss aside. Either way, they need to act to counter this somehow. The Lady crosses her arms, already having decided on a course of action:]
We must make them believe we're the ones behind this.

Date: 2020-01-23 02:28 am (UTC)But I suppose you have a point. If I was to make a guess, I feel like the most likely answer is that the fault lies with the night itself. Hollow night, was what the citizens of this world called it, no? It has been three weeks since they've awakened, not counting the time it took to bring them here and set up the facilities. Perhaps the night is finally ending.
[ He adjusts his glasses, letting his thoughts trail off. ]
If that is what you wish, but they will surely ask why. What shall I tell them?

Date: 2020-01-23 03:28 am (UTC)No, it can't end yet! This all has been going better than planned, but I still need some more time! Rembrandt, if the night is ending, you must do everything you can to stop that from happening! There must be something you can do!
[If the night ends and the gate is gone, then the project may suffer some damages. A city full of people returning and living for one day more -- and undoubtedly noticing additions such as the lampposts to the main square, for example -- could prove catastrophic. The mere thought of that is enough to make her really upset]
They'll ask, that's for sure. Tell them... [She considers for a moment, walking around the office. They have to do this in a way that's subtle, without raising any alarms. It takes her a minute to come up with a plan] ...don't tell them anything specific. Insinuate I had been very annoyed about the lack of electricity and spent a lot of time trying to get that fixed. Never mention we don't know what happened.
[She takes out paper and writes some stuff]
But you being vague won't be enough, we'll need them to think that with no shadow of doubt. I know which of them I can use for this. Here, make an invitation, make it nice and elegant.
[The note she gives Rembrandt has the text for the invitation:
'Dist, I summon you to my office at your earliest convenience. There's a topic that will interest you greatly! Tools will be provided to you, as well as tea of your preference. I believe you will be rather pleased to hear about this!']
I know how to manipulate him to make him say what I want. Once I'm done fooling him, he will be the one who will convince everybody I restored the electricity. That should work.

Date: 2020-01-23 07:27 pm (UTC)[ That sounds dangerous. ]
...of course you would summon him, very well then. [ Shrugging he slides off the desk in one smooth motion. ]
If that is your will, then I will carry it out.

Date: 2020-01-23 08:05 pm (UTC)[She guesses, mostly because it'll be who knows how much time longer with the Other as your lady. Meal time gets delayed if the night ends and she has to get an alternate plan for her goals!
'Of course you would summon him', hah. That wording kind of gets her attention. Grinning slyly, she makes innocent eyes at Rembrandt]
Aw, are you jealous? Are you jealous of that attention-starved scientist?
[You got nothing to be jealous off, Remmywemmy]

Date: 2020-01-24 06:06 am (UTC)Jealous is one of the seven deadly vices you know, and devils know it very well. Which is to say it doesn't work on me, nor do I feel it. [ This is bs bc he is one fucking prideful demon. Here he does sound sincere though. ]
I simply do not understand why numerous people hold him in high regard, that's all. [ No that's. Really it he just doesn't get it. Well that and he has a keen eye towards him because she's so interested. ]

Date: 2020-01-24 02:10 pm (UTC)[Almost makes her nostalgic. It's like Dist is a little piece of her world, in the form of...some guy from another world. Doesn't make much sense when she puts it like that]
But there's nothing to be puzzled about. I like him and I truly am interested in him as a peer, but he's nowhere close to your level.

Date: 2020-01-25 03:13 am (UTC)[ It's not like HE'S feeling nostalgia or anything. ]
Well of course not, I am but one hell of a... hm, that's admittedly a lot less suiting than it used to be.

Date: 2020-01-25 03:28 am (UTC)[Does your repertoire of demon and hell related puns know no end, Rembrandt, she wonders]

Date: 2020-01-25 03:38 am (UTC)[ He's hammy and cheesey ok. ]
no subject
Date: 2020-01-25 03:55 am (UTC)[Nothing like a perceived slight. The Lady goes towards the door, deciding to end the conversation, although not without one last thing to say:]
Since you clearly have the capacity to think hard enough about wordplay, and surely know many languages, I order you to give me a list of human-related puns tomorrow. Make it a dozen.
[Because clearly the Lady hasn't stopped being petty. Augh. With that, she leaves, intending to go underground again to start trying to find out why there suddenly are places with electricity. See you, Rembrandt]
